About

Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation that builds sustainable future and well-being from renewable natural resources. Luke is a research organisation operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland. Luke’s task is to promote competitive business based on the sustainable use of renewable natural resources, as well as wellbeing and the vitality of the countryside.

Role in project

The Natural Resources Institute Finland is the Academic lead for the Transition Coastal Lab in Finland. They are responsible for fieldwork and data analysis in the Finnish TCL and organising local workshops in collaboration with work package leaders. They also support the Finnish TCL host.

Kristina Svels

Senior Researcher

Kristina has a PhD in rural sociology. She works within the Bioeconomy and Environment unit and is an Associated Professor at Åbo Akademi University in the profile program, The Sea. She thematically works with ‘fisheries in changing societies’ and conducts social science research on the small-scale fisheries sector, fisheries governance, natural resource governance, sustainability research and studies involving participation and human-animal conflicts. She takes part in collaborative local studies between researchers and fishers in the national EMFAF innovation program.
