Her fields of interest are political ecology, environmental politics and governance of the Commons with a focus on the sea and the coastline; how is the understanding of the sea and the coastal space as a ‘Common’ or ‘Common Heritage’ affected by international agreements or national law, and how are such institutional arrangements being instrumentalised to expand the authority of the State. She has published widely in this area, including in the journals Sustainability Science, Marine Policy, Ocean and Coastal Management, and Political Geography.
